Composite resin (tooth colored filling material) has been used in dentistry for decades and has progressed to the point where fillings of this kind are nearly undetectable. Our practice uses composite resin exclusively for fillings in front and back teeth. Selecting a shade that matches your existing shade as close as possible ensures that they will blend in well.
Benefits of Composite Resin
Some of the benefits of this material are strength (physically bonded to tooth structure), wear resistance, thermal insulation (heats and cools roughly the same as natural teeth) and of course shade selection. Composite resin can be used to restore teeth with decay and also to enhance front teeth that have stains, chips or gaps.
Many patients choose to whiten their teeth first with our Kor whitening system and then elect to have cosmetic bonding to enhance their smile. We do not recommend removing and replacing silver fillings if the fillings are sound and without decay. Our goal is to be as conservative as possible for our patients and only recommend replacement if there is an issue.
